Gravity-Fed Filtration for Everyday Self-Reliance

Berkey® systems use gravity rather than electricity or water pressure to move water through the filtration elements. That makes them practical for everyday household use, homesteads, cabins, RVs, and other situations where simple, independent water filtration is valuable.

Because the system is freestanding and does not require permanent plumbing, it can be placed where it is most useful in the home and moved when needed.

Which Berkey® system size should I choose?

Choose a system based on how many people will use it, how much filtered water your household typically needs, and how much countertop space you have available. Smaller systems such as the Go and Travel Berkey® are suited to lighter use, while Big, Royal, Imperial, and Crown systems provide progressively more capacity for larger households and higher daily demand.

How often do Black Berkey® Elements need to be replaced?

Black Berkey® Elements are designed for long service life and can be cleaned during use. Berkey recommends replacement at approximately 3,000 gallons per element, or about 6,000 gallons for a set of two, although actual service life can vary depending on source-water quality and usage.

Do Berkey® systems require electricity or plumbing?

No. Berkey® gravity-fed systems do not require electricity, water pressure, or permanent plumbing. Water is poured into the upper chamber and gravity moves it through the filtration elements into the lower chamber for dispensing.

How does a Berkey® water filter work?

Berkey® systems use gravity to move water from the upper chamber through the filter elements into the lower chamber. No electricity or permanent plumbing is required, making the system simple to use on a countertop or other stable surface.

Can Black Berkey® Elements be cleaned?

Yes. Black Berkey® Elements can be cleaned during their service life when flow begins to slow. Berkey recommends replacing them at approximately 3,000 gallons per element, or 6,000 gallons per set of two, depending on source-water quality and usage.

What are Berkey® PF-2 elements used for?

Berkey® PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements are optional secondary filters designed to work with Black Berkey® Elements. They attach beneath the Black Berkey® Elements in the lower chamber and are intended for added fluoride and arsenic reduction.

How do I maintain a Berkey® system?

Routine maintenance includes cleaning the lower chamber and spigot, checking the filter elements, and keeping the system free of mineral buildup. Berkey recommends periodic cleaning as needed based on use and water conditions.

Berkey® Gravity-Fed Water Filtration for Home & Homestead

Berkey® gravity-fed water filtration systems offer a practical way to keep filtered drinking water available for everyday household use. Because the stainless-steel systems operate without electricity or permanent plumbing, they are well suited for kitchens, homesteads, cabins, RVs, and households interested in greater self-reliance.

HolyLand Marketplace carries Berkey® systems in a range of capacities, from compact personal and travel options to larger systems designed for households with greater daily water needs. Choosing the right Berkey depends on household size, available counter space, water usage, and desired filtration capacity.

A Berkey system is also supported by a range of replacement filters and accessories. Black Berkey® Elements provide the primary filtration stage, while compatible PF-2 elements can be added for targeted fluoride and arsenic reduction. Replacement spigots, water-view and sight-glass spigots, base stands, and filter-priming tools can help maintain and customize your system over time.

For households focused on homesteading, practical preparedness, or simply reducing dependence on complicated equipment, gravity-fed filtration provides a straightforward approach: fill the upper chamber, allow gravity to move the water through the filter elements, and dispense filtered water from the lower chamber.
