"We went to bed in the inn of Mitzpe Ramon knowing it would be wintery the next morning, with cold snapping across Israel.  My imagination worked overtime as I spread our maps on the bed and contemplated setting out into the unknown, apparently desolate territory.  Were the two days that my husband and I had allowed for reaching our next supply station sufficient, or would we run out of food and water?

Sometimes this Israel Trail business seemed to be more than I had bargained for, but I didn't dwell on those thoughts long.  I reminded myself that many people would be thankful just to get a glimpse of these biblical landscapes.  Besides, we had dreamed about taking a break from our busy lives, and this was it."
