Ketubah

Beautifully stunning Ketubah by Israeli artist Amy Sheetreet.

Writing is in both Hebrew and English.

Traditionally, before the wedding, the officiating individual fills in the blanks and supervises the signing of the document by the witnesses.  Once the groom places the ring on the bride's finger, the Ketubah is read aloud. After the ketubah is read, it is handed to the groom who gives it to the bride. The ketubah is then put in a safe place for the duration of the wedding.

The Ketubah is a binding document which details the husband's obligations to his wife, showing that marriage is more than a physical-spiritual union; it is a legal and moral commitment. The Ketubah states the principal obligations of the groom to provide for his wife and for his wife to provide for him and that all is done to honor their Messiah, Yeshua.

The ketubah document is reminiscent of the wedding between G‑d and Israel;  In the Torah, G‑d, the groom, undertakes to provide for all the physical and spiritual needs of His beloved bride.

The Ketubah reads:

On the ________day of the week, the ________ day of the month in the year _______ from the creation of the world; or as we reckon it here in  _____, on the ________day of the month of _________ in the year ________ in the city of _______, ________.

The Bridegroom, _________ son of _____________ And Bride, _________ daughter of ________ stood together under the chuppah with family and friends to enter into the holy covenant of marriage.

________ the groom said to _________ his bride Today you are consecrated to me according to the law of Moses and Israel.

Then _________ the bride said to ________ her groom:  Today you are consecrated to me according to the law of Moses and Israel.

The Groom also vowed to his Bride:  Even as Yeshua loved his kehilah and gave himself for her, so I give myself to you in love, to guard and protect you, to provide for you, to nurture you, and to make our home a place where Yeshua will be honored in all things.

The Bride also vowed to her groom:  Even as the kehilah of Yeshua our Messiah submits to him and honors him , so I submit myself to you in love, to honor and support you, to nurture you, to make our home a place where Yeshua will be honored in all things.

I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine.
