In Hebrew Hyssop is called Za’atar. Origanium Syriacum.
Biblical Hyssop is an aromatic perennial herb in the mint family. The name Hyssop can be traced back almost unchanged through the Greek hyssopus and Hebrew esov, meaning “holy herb”. Groung Hyssop is combined with olive oil, sesame, garlic and salt for dipping bread. This was a common Mediterranean meal in the first century, as it remains today.
Flowering period: April to September.
How to grow: this plant prefers full sun and sandy soil and sparse watering.
